GEOINT for Beginners | Ukarine Khakovka Dam

Hello everyone, today I will guide you how to start GEOINT from satellite imagery. For todays writeup, we are taking the following image as a target:

Now we want to know what place this exactly is.

We look closely in the photograph and make a list of what we see

1. Lots of water
2. Some broken Infrastructure over a river (possibly a dam)
3. A bit of greenery to the left

Now our first step is that we reverse search this image. Google Reverse Imaging is a good way to start but if you are getting a photo where its not avalaible on the web before then that is where Yandex comes in handy.

I reverse search this image on Yandex and see the results

Now we see that we have some Russian text and alongwith some photos of a dam. But it seems like our dam is destroyed so we have to compare to other photos to see if this is the same dam as our search results.

Now if we look at the landmarks we see how this is similar to the searched image.
